The collaboration between Cantisa and artist Cristina Mejías for the new Starbucks® flagship at the Bernabéu Stadium is one of those examples. Located in one of the most iconic stadiums in the world, the Bernabéu store is the first Starbucks integrated inside a football stadium in Spain. With panoramic views over the pitch and a design conceived as an experience that goes beyond coffee, the space features a large sculptural installation created specifically for this setting.
Artist Cristina Mejías, known for her installations and sculptures that explore memory, storytelling, and the relationship between materials and space, was commissioned to create From Tails to Tales.
Inspired by Starbucks’ iconic two-tailed siren, as well as by the imagery of the sea and its mythological narratives, the piece unfolds from a central point suspended above the venue’s main staircase. Its curved forms evoke the movement of water and the siren’s tails, while abstract elements, tensioned lines, and counterweights reference marine life and traditions connected to the ocean.
Designed specifically for the space, the sculpture offers shifting perspectives from the venue’s different levels, becoming one of the most striking elements of the flagship.

Cristina Mejías frequently works with wood in her pieces, seeking materials that allow her to combine lightness, movement, and expressiveness. During the development of this project, she discovered one of Cantisa’s solutions: wood veneer with a PVC backing.
Building on that initial idea, we worked with the artist to develop a unique roll composed of different wood veneers joined longitudinally, combining natural and dyed woods in various tones over an aqua-green PVC base.
This solution made it possible to create large curved forms while preserving the warmth and authenticity of wood, while also providing the flexibility and stability required for a large-scale suspended installation.
