In Cantisa we market ABS edgebanding. We can also manufacture ABS edgeband from any of our PVC references, under a minimum order.
ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) is a plastic compound widely used in different fields and also in the furniture industry. Its characteristics converts it in a most adequate raw material for the production of edge-bands.
Do you want to know more about this product?
Our samples and homologation department will provide you the edge-band samples suitable for the melamine you require. The objective of this equipment is that our customers can have the edgebanding at the same time they buy the melamine.
. Within the matching process of our ABS edges for a particular melamine we consider:
1- STABILITY
ABS is more stable, as it maintains more efficiently its physical characteristics to temperature changes. Whereas PVC softens when exposed to heat, and hardens when exposed to low temperatures (risk of splintering), thus being ABS more stable.
2- SPEED
In consequence to the above mentioned, the application of ABS edges can be accomplished at higher speed, and at the same time provide a higher finish quality of the edge-band.
3- RESISTANCE
Due to its composition, it has a higher resistance to surface scratches. It is an important fact for plain colors as – in wood grain designs – the varnish applied provides the necessary resistance.
4- ECOLOGICAL
It is more ecologic tan PVC. The combustion of PVC produces toxic fumes (hydrochloric acid), this not being the case of ABS.
5- TOOL WEAR
Due to its composition, ABS will minimize the wear of tools used in the application process of edges.
All our wood products come from sustainably managed forests. Check our FSC declaration here.

Hot Melt Pre-Glued
A layer of hot melt glue can be applied to the base of the edge band. The melting point of this glue is a 180 degrees Celsius.
It is mainly used in edge-banding machines not fitted with glue dispenser and applicator. Thus, with a basic hot air edge-banding machine, or with a plain domestic iron, the ABS pre-glued edgebanding can be adhered to the board.
The proportion of glue provided with the edge-band is 120 grs/m2. This proportion being the adequate to ensure a flawless bonding, avoiding any excess of glue at the joint between the board and the edge-band (glue line). .

Self adhesive coating
An auto-adhesive glue can be applied to the base of our ABS edges.
This glue is protected with a silicon-coated paper to ensure proper conservation of the product.
By just removing the silicon-coated paper and applying a manual pressure, the ABS edge will be adhered to different types of surfaces. For example: chip-board, MDF , solid wood, etc. Self adhesive edgeband can be also used for inlaying.

Protective film
A low adherence protective plastic film can be placed over the surface of our ABS edges. .
Applying a protective plastic film you can avoid staining the edge while varnishing the surface of a board (either by : spray, curtain or paint roller techniques). Once finished, the plastic film is removed from the edge revealing an immaculate finish. It also offers extra protection to the edge, when dealing with delicate surfaces like high gloss surfaces (90 gloss). The plastic covers the whole edge.
For special application purposes – problems while profiling the edge on the edge-banding machine -, we can apply the protecting film only on the central portion of the edge-band (centered protector).

Textures and embossings
Following the latest trends in surfaces, we can offer different pores on ABS edgebands. These textures reproduce the same finish structures as the actual melamines.
The result is a better integration of board and edge.

Varnishing (+Antibacterial)
Our wood-grain design ABS edges are UV lacquered to ensure a flawless sealing of the surface, thus covering the printed ink design, which will remain perfectly adhered and protected to the base. The gloss of our edges is regulated by the varnish applied over them.
We match the gloss of the melamine board, to ensure homogeneity within board and edge. The resistance of the varnish has to be adequate to the natural usage wear of a piece of furniture It is perfectly adhered to the base and protected. .
Antibacterial finish
The antibacterial finish is applied as a varnish on the edge surface. The silver ions in the finish adhere to the cell wall and disrupt bacterial growth. It is proven to provide permanent protection 24 hours after application. This process causes a bacterial reduction of up to 99% in less than 24 hours. The effectiveness of the product is guaranteed as long as the top coat is not removed, for example by sanding.

High gloss varnish
In line with surface trends, high gloss edges are available. High-gloss furniture provides more space thanks to the brightness and reflections it creates.
To achieve the high gloss edge we use UV varnishes and Reverse application systems. With this procedure we achieve a gloss between 80 and 90 gloss.
We can apply high gloss in unicolor and wood designs.

Supermatt varnish
Matt furniture makes the room stylish and rejuvenating. In line with surface trends, we have developed the edge with a super-matt finish. To achieve the perfect result it is important to get the matt finish also on the edge.
With UV varnishes, we achieve matt finishes between 4 and 6 gloss. We can apply them in both unicolour and wood designs.
