We got inspired by nature
Cross grain edgeband follows the natural shape of wood.
Apply it on crown cut veneered boards and avoid the grain of the edge being perpendicular to the surface. The piece will look even more like natural wood. All four sides of melamine boards are commonly banded with the grain in the same direction. However we should use cross-grain edgebanding for two of its sides, if we want a natural looking finish.
When designing this product, we study in-depth a solid veneer board, to gain a thorough understanding of design requirements: the grain running width wise rather than length wise gives the edgeband the natural look we seek.
At Cantisa we have studied the different ways of cutting to extract a solid plank from a log of wood.
According to the cut in the illustration, the resulting planks have a meshed (straight) grain on the surface.
Therefore, at the end of the plank, the grain is transversal and at a 90º angle with respect to the surface.
With the aim of recreating veneered pieces with this solid appearance. To do this, we must place the edge (on the heads of the piece) with the grain across.
All our wood products come from sustainably managed forests. Check our FSC declaration here.
